ALAN FOSTER
In 1964 I sailed the Atlantic Ocean, a wild 7 days at sea aboard the Empress
I like Golf and Bowling.
I was born in the Village of Billinge only a stones throw from the "lump"
on
Easter Sunday 1941. We didn't live in the village very long, the family
moved
to St Helens and later to Rainhill (the home of Stevenson's rocket).
I
attended Nutgrove Public School and Central Modern High School. I spent
7 years
in the Air Training Corps # 969 Squadron. I served my Electricians
apprenticeship
at Pilkington Bros. Glass Manufacturers @ Sheet Works.
I also spent a couple of
years in the St Helens Police Force.
of England
to emmigrate to Canada. I initially stayed with my Uncle Stephen
until I found a job
and an apartment in Kingston, Ontario. In 1966 I started
work in the Canadian
Penetentiary Service as an Electrician/Instructor at
Kingston Penetentiary which was a
maximum security facility. I later transferred
to Warkworth Institution, medium Security
which is near Peterborough, Ontario.
I was there for about 9 years. After about
12 years in the service I said enough
is enough and quit the service. In 1978 I moved to
the Ottawa area where I worked
as a Construction Electrician. I retired in 2007
A lot of my spare time over the last couple of years
have been spent
researching my families history and creating a
family tree. To date I have uncovered some
very little known family history including
a member who was shipped to Van Diemans Land(Tasmania)
for 10 years as a convict.
Because of this I have uncovered sections of the FOSTER'S of
Billinge
3 complete families in all so far that are now related.
