average means [Roger Anderton of Birchley & Ann Stanford]; has many Catholic brothers and sisters
and kinfolk ..." Studied humanities for 5 years at St Omers....ECR 1622-1685 . 451

1622-1640 b. 7th son of Roger I Anderton of Birchley & Anne, dau. to Edward Stanford of Perry
Hall, Co. Stafford, esq.
DUG.5 pre 1664 m. Gertrude, dau. of ... Smith.
22/09/1664 Alive and married at the Dugdale Visitation.
post 1664 Died.

Therefore we can say ...
1625-1640 Born. From ECR 1622-1685 . 481 we know that an elder brother, Edward, was born
in 1624 and from DUG.5 we know that his father died in 1640.
Pre 1664 Married.
Post 1664 Died.
Perhaps the most telling point is the inclusion of his marriage to Gertrude Smith in the Dugdale Visitation:
this matches with John of Dorchester Co who we know was alive at the time and was married to a
Gertrude Smith. Of coincidental interest is the naming of the eldest (?) son Francis for two generations, this
was the given name of the head of the Andertons of Lostock from 1650-1678 (Sir Francis Anderton)
and 1724-1760 (Sir Francis Anderton).
